Lord Mayo
Lord Mayo was a British politician who served as the Governor-General of India from 1869 until his assassination in 1872. He was known for his efforts to modernize India and improve its infrastructure, including the expansion of railways and telegraphs. His tenure was marked by a focus on education and public health reforms.
Mayo was born in 1822 and came from an aristocratic family. He was a member of the British Parliament and held various positions before his appointment as Governor-General. His assassination by a prisoner in the Andaman Islands shocked the British Empire and led to increased security measures for colonial officials.
