Loonies
"Loonies" is a colloquial term for the one-dollar coin used in Canada. The name comes from the image of a common loon, a bird native to Canada, that appears on one side of the coin. The coin was introduced in 1987 to replace paper currency and is made of nickel-brass, giving it a distinctive gold color.
The Royal Canadian Mint produces the Loonies, which are widely accepted across Canada. In addition to the Loonie, there is also a two-dollar coin known as the "Toonie," which features a polar bear on one side. Together, these coins are essential for everyday transactions in Canada.
