The Local Group is a collection of galaxies that includes our own galaxy, the Milky Way. It consists of more than 50 galaxies, with the two largest being the Andromeda Galaxy and the Triangulum Galaxy. These galaxies are relatively close to each other in cosmic terms, located about 10 million light-years away from one another.
The Local Group is part of a larger structure known as the Laniakea Supercluster, which contains thousands of galaxies. Studying the Local Group helps astronomers understand the formation and evolution of galaxies, as well as the gravitational interactions that occur between them over time.
