Lobectomy
A lobectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of a lobe from an organ, most commonly the lungs. This operation is often performed to treat conditions such as lung cancer, infections, or other diseases affecting the lung tissue. The procedure can help improve breathing and overall lung function by eliminating damaged or diseased areas.
In the case of the lungs, each lung is divided into lobes: the right lung has three lobes, while the left lung has two. After a lobectomy, the remaining lung tissue can often expand to compensate for the loss, allowing patients to maintain a good quality of life. Recovery may involve physical therapy and regular follow-up with healthcare providers.
