Linguistic Phonetics
Linguistic Phonetics is the study of the sounds used in human speech. It focuses on how these sounds are produced, transmitted, and perceived. This field examines the physical properties of speech sounds, including their articulation, acoustic characteristics, and auditory perception.
Phonetics is divided into three main branches: Articulatory Phonetics, which looks at how speech sounds are made; Acoustic Phonetics, which analyzes the sound waves produced; and Auditory Phonetics, which studies how sounds are heard and processed by the human ear and brain. Understanding these aspects helps linguists analyze languages and improve communication technologies.
