Lincoln Penny
The Lincoln Penny is a one-cent coin that features the image of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. First minted in 1909 to commemorate Lincoln's 100th birthday, it was the first U.S. coin to depict a real person. The coin is made primarily of copper and has undergone several changes in composition over the years.
The reverse side of the Lincoln Penny originally displayed a wheat design, known as the Wheat Penny, until 1959 when it was replaced by the Lincoln Memorial design. In 2009, to celebrate Lincoln's legacy, the U.S. Mint issued special designs, including one featuring the Lincoln Log Cabin.
