Lima Barreto
Lima Barreto was a Brazilian writer born on May 13, 1881, in Rio de Janeiro. He is best known for his novels, essays, and short stories that often addressed social issues, particularly the struggles of the marginalized in Brazilian society. His most famous work, Triste Fim de Policarpo Quaresma, critiques nationalism and explores themes of identity and disillusionment.
Barreto faced significant challenges during his life, including mental health issues and racial discrimination, as he was of mixed heritage. Despite these obstacles, he became an influential figure in Brazilian literature, contributing to the Modernist movement and inspiring future generations of writers.
