Lightship Columbia
The Lightship Columbia is a historic floating lighthouse that served as a navigational aid in the waters off the coast of Oregon. Commissioned in 1892, it was stationed at the mouth of the Columbia River, marking a crucial point for maritime traffic. The vessel was equipped with a powerful light and foghorn to guide ships safely through the treacherous waters.
After being decommissioned in 1980, the Lightship Columbia was preserved and is now a museum ship located in Astoria, Oregon. It offers visitors a glimpse into maritime history and the important role lightships played in ensuring safe navigation along the Pacific coast.
