Libby Dam
Libby Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the Kootenai River in Montana, USA. Completed in 1972, it was built primarily for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, and irrigation. The dam creates Lake Koocanusa, a reservoir that extends into Canada and provides recreational opportunities such as boating and fishing.
The dam is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and plays a crucial role in managing water flow to prevent flooding downstream. It has a total generating capacity of 600 megawatts, contributing to the region's energy supply while supporting local ecosystems and wildlife habitats.
