Lecompton
Lecompton is a small town located in Douglas County, Kansas. It was founded in the mid-19th century and is known for its historical significance during the Bleeding Kansas conflict, a series of violent political confrontations between pro-slavery and anti-slavery factions.
The town is also notable for the Lecompton Constitution, which was a proposed state constitution that aimed to make Kansas a slave state. Although it was ultimately rejected, the constitution played a crucial role in the national debate over slavery and contributed to the tensions leading up to the American Civil War.
