Le Pari (Wager)
"Le Pari" (The Wager) is a philosophical work by the French philosopher and mathematician Blaise Pascal. Written in the 17th century, it presents an argument for believing in God. Pascal suggests that if one bets on God's existence and is correct, the reward is eternal happiness, while if wrong, the loss is minimal.
The wager is framed as a rational choice under uncertainty. Pascal argues that it is more prudent to believe in God than to disbelieve, as the potential benefits outweigh the risks. This idea has influenced discussions in philosophy, theology, and decision theory.
