Lateral Collateral Ligament
The Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) is a band of tissue located on the outer side of the knee. It connects the thigh bone, or femur, to the smaller bone of the lower leg, known as the fibula. The LCL helps stabilize the knee joint, preventing excessive side-to-side movement.
Injuries to the LCL can occur due to trauma or excessive force, often seen in sports. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, and instability in the knee. Treatment options range from rest and physical therapy to surgical intervention, depending on the severity of the injury.
