Landing on the Moon
On July 20, 1969, the United States achieved a historic milestone by landing astronauts on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. The spacecraft, consisting of the Command Module and the Lunar Module, successfully touched down in the Sea of Tranquility. Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the lunar surface, while Michael Collins remained in orbit.
During their time on the Moon, Armstrong and Aldrin conducted experiments, collected samples, and took photographs. They spent about two and a half hours outside the Lunar Module before returning to the Command Module for the journey back to Earth. This event marked a significant achievement in space exploration.
