Land mines
Land mines are explosive devices designed to be placed on or just below the ground. They are often used in military conflicts to deny access to certain areas or to protect strategic locations. When stepped on or triggered by pressure, they can detonate, causing injury or death to people and animals.
There are two main types of land mines: anti-personnel mines, which target individuals, and anti-tank mines, designed to destroy vehicles. Land mines can remain dangerous long after a conflict has ended, posing risks to civilians and hindering post-war recovery efforts. Efforts to clear land mines are ongoing in many affected regions.
