Land Runs
Land Runs were events in the late 19th century where settlers raced to claim land in the newly opened territories of the United States, particularly in areas like Oklahoma. These events were often marked by a loud gunshot or signal, prompting thousands of people to rush to stake their claims on parcels of land.
The most famous Land Run occurred on April 22, 1889, when the Unassigned Lands in Oklahoma were opened for settlement. Participants, known as "sooners," faced fierce competition and sometimes violence as they sought to secure their new homes and opportunities in the American West.
