Land Diving
Land Diving is a traditional ritual practiced by the people of Vanuatu, particularly on the island of Pentecost. Participants, usually men, jump from tall wooden towers with vines tied to their ankles. The goal is to dive headfirst toward the ground, with the vine stretching to prevent them from hitting the earth.
This practice is believed to symbolize fertility and is part of a larger cultural celebration. The height of the jump varies, and the skill of the diver is judged based on their technique and the distance from the ground. Land diving is a significant cultural event that attracts both locals and tourists.
