Lakes in Finland
Finland is known as the "Land of a Thousand Lakes," but it actually has around 188,000 lakes. These lakes vary in size and are scattered throughout the country, providing beautiful landscapes and recreational opportunities. The largest lake, Lake Saimaa, is famous for its unique wildlife, including the endangered Saimaa ringed seal.
Many of Finland's lakes are interconnected by rivers and streams, creating a vast network of waterways. The lakes are popular for activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming, especially during the warm summer months. In winter, they often freeze over, allowing for ice fishing and other winter sports.
