La Pérouse Strait
La Pérouse Strait is a narrow body of water located between the eastern coast of Russia and the western coast of Japan. It connects the Sea of Japan to the Sea of Okhotsk and is approximately 43 kilometers (27 miles) wide at its narrowest point. The strait is named after the French explorer Jean-François de La Pérouse, who navigated the area in the late 18th century.
The strait plays a significant role in maritime navigation and regional ecology. It serves as a vital route for shipping and fishing vessels, facilitating trade and transportation between Asia and North America. The surrounding waters are rich in marine life, making it an important area for both commercial and recreational fishing.
