La Manche (Channel)
La Manche, commonly known as the English Channel, is a body of water that separates England from France. It connects the North Sea to the Atlantic Ocean and is approximately 150 miles (240 kilometers) long at its widest point. The channel is an important shipping route and has been historically significant for trade and military movements.
The Channel Tunnel, also known as the Chunnel, runs beneath La Manche, linking Folkestone in England to Coquelles near Calais in France. This underwater rail tunnel allows for the transport of passengers and goods, enhancing connectivity between the two countries. The channel is also known for its strong tides and busy maritime traffic.
