Kumbum
Kumbum is a significant Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in the Huangzhong District of Qinghai Province, China. Founded in 1583, it is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is renowned for its stunning architecture, intricate murals, and rich collection of Buddhist artifacts.
The name "Kumbum" translates to "one hundred thousand images," reflecting the numerous statues and paintings found within its walls. It is also the birthplace of the famous Tibetan lama, Tsongkhapa, who founded the Gelug school. Kumbum serves as an important center for religious study and practice in Tibetan Buddhism.
