Krathong Festival
The Krathong Festival, also known as Loy Krathong, is a traditional Thai festival celebrated annually, usually in November. It marks the end of the rainy season and is a time to pay respect to the Goddess of Water. During the festival, people create small floating baskets, or krathongs, made from banana leaves, flowers, and candles, which they release onto rivers and lakes.
The festival symbolizes the letting go of negativity and the welcoming of good fortune. Celebrations often include fireworks, traditional dances, and beauty pageants, making it a vibrant cultural event. Many tourists visit Thailand to experience the enchanting atmosphere of Loy Krathong.
