Kongo Kingdom
The Kongo Kingdom was a powerful state located in Central Africa, primarily in what is now northern Angola and the western part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It emerged in the late 14th century and became known for its complex political structure, which included a king, nobles, and local chiefs. The kingdom was rich in resources, particularly copper and ivory, and engaged in trade with European powers.
The Kongo Kingdom is notable for its early interactions with Portugal in the late 15th century, which led to the introduction of Christianity and European goods. The kingdom's capital was Mbanza Kongo, a vibrant city that served as a cultural and political center. Over time, internal conflicts and external pressures contributed to its decline in the 19th century.
