Komnenian Restoration
The Komnenian Restoration refers to a period in the history of the Byzantine Empire during the 11th and 12th centuries, marked by the reign of the Komnenos dynasty. This era began with the ascension of Alexios I Komnenos in 1081, who implemented military and administrative reforms to stabilize the empire, which had been weakened by internal strife and external threats.
Under the Komnenian rulers, the empire experienced a revival in military strength and territorial expansion, particularly against the Seljuk Turks and during the Crusades. The restoration also saw a cultural and economic resurgence, as the Byzantine state regained influence in the Mediterranean and strengthened its political structures.
