Kolyma Highway
The Kolyma Highway, also known as the Road of Bones, is a remote road in northeastern Russia. It stretches approximately 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) from Magadan to Yakutsk, traversing harsh landscapes and extreme weather conditions. The highway was built during the Stalin era, primarily using forced labor from prisoners, which is why it has its grim nickname.
Constructed in the 1930s and 1940s, the Kolyma Highway serves as a vital transportation route for the region, connecting isolated communities and facilitating the movement of goods. Despite its treacherous conditions, it remains an important part of Russia's infrastructure, reflecting the country's challenging history and resilience.
