Kolyada
Kolyada is a traditional Slavic winter festival celebrated around the winter solstice, often associated with the arrival of the new year. It marks the beginning of the winter festivities and is characterized by various rituals, songs, and communal gatherings. People often engage in caroling, known as kolyadki, where they sing songs to celebrate the season and bring good fortune.
During Kolyada, families may prepare special foods and participate in games and dances. The festival is rooted in ancient pagan customs, but over time, it has incorporated elements of Christianity, particularly in Eastern European cultures. Celebrations often include the lighting of bonfires and the decoration of homes to welcome the new year.
