Koko the Gorilla
Koko the Gorilla was a western lowland gorilla born on July 4, 1971, at the San Francisco Zoo. She became famous for her ability to communicate using a modified form of American Sign Language, which she learned from her caregiver, Dr. Francine Patterson. Koko was known for her intelligence and emotional depth, often expressing feelings and thoughts through signs.
Throughout her life, Koko was involved in various research projects and public outreach efforts to raise awareness about gorillas and conservation. She had a pet cat named All Ball, which she cared for deeply, showcasing her capacity for empathy and companionship. Koko passed away on June 19, 2018.
