Kiting
Kiting is a financial scheme where a person writes a check from one bank account without sufficient funds, then deposits it into another account to cover the first check. This creates the illusion of having money, allowing the individual to withdraw funds before the checks bounce. Kiting is illegal and considered a form of fraud.
The practice often involves multiple bank accounts, and the person may repeatedly transfer funds between them to maintain the appearance of solvency. Banks, such as Bank of America or Wells Fargo, have systems in place to detect kiting activities and may impose penalties or pursue legal action against offenders.
