Kintaro Hattori
Kintaro Hattori was a Japanese entrepreneur and the founder of the Seiko brand, known for its high-quality watches. Born on June 1, 1860, in the city of Kōfu, he started his career by repairing and selling clocks. His passion for precision and craftsmanship led him to establish the Hattori Clock Shop in 1881.
In 1892, Hattori expanded his business by creating the Seiko brand, which means "exquisite" or "success" in Japanese. Under his leadership, Seiko became a pioneer in the watch industry, introducing innovations such as the first Japanese wristwatch and quartz technology, significantly impacting global watchmaking.
