King Idris I
King Idris I was the first monarch of Libya, ruling from 1951 until 1969. He played a significant role in Libya's independence from Italy and was instrumental in establishing the country as a constitutional monarchy. His reign saw the development of infrastructure and education, although it was also marked by political challenges.
In 1969, King Idris I was overthrown in a military coup led by Muammar Gaddafi. Following his ousting, he lived in exile in Egypt and other countries until his death in 1983. His legacy remains a topic of discussion in Libya's complex history.
