Kinesin
Kinesin is a type of motor protein found in cells that plays a crucial role in transporting materials. It moves along structures called microtubules, which are part of the cell's skeleton. Kinesin uses energy from ATP (adenosine triphosphate) to "walk" along these microtubules, carrying cellular cargo such as organelles and vesicles to their proper locations.
This movement is essential for many cellular processes, including cell division and the maintenance of cell shape. Kinesin works in tandem with another motor protein called dynein, which moves in the opposite direction. Together, they ensure that the cell's internal transport system functions smoothly.
