Kilovolt-Ampere
A kilovolt-ampere (kVA) is a unit of measurement used to express the apparent power in an electrical system. It represents the product of voltage (in kilovolts) and current (in amperes) without considering the phase angle between them. This makes kVA useful for understanding the total power capacity of electrical equipment, such as generators and transformers.
In electrical systems, the kVA rating helps determine how much load a device can handle. While it is similar to kilowatts (kW), which measures real power, kVA accounts for both active and reactive power. This distinction is important for efficient energy management in systems involving AC power and inductive loads.
