Killing Fields
The term "Killing Fields" refers to sites in Cambodia where mass executions took place during the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979. Under the leadership of Pol Pot, an estimated 1.7 million people died due to starvation, forced labor, and execution. These fields are a grim reminder of the atrocities committed during this period.
Today, many of these sites have been memorialized to honor the victims and educate the public about the genocide. The most notable is the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, which serves as a memorial and museum, providing insight into the tragic history of the Cambodian people during the Cambodian Genocide.
