Key Distribution Center
A Key Distribution Center (KDC) is a crucial component in network security, primarily used in cryptographic systems. It manages and distributes encryption keys to users and devices within a network, ensuring secure communication. The KDC helps establish trust between parties by providing unique keys for each session, which enhances data protection.
In many systems, such as those using the Kerberos protocol, the KDC plays a vital role in authenticating users and services. It consists of two main functions: the Authentication Server (AS) and the Ticket Granting Server (TGS). Together, they facilitate secure access to resources while minimizing the risk of unauthorized access.
