Kerameikos Archaeological Site
The Kerameikos Archaeological Site is an ancient cemetery located in Athens, Greece. It was used from the 12th century BC until the Roman period and is known for its significant burial practices and monuments. The site features impressive funerary sculptures and the famous Demosion Sema, a public burial ground for Athenian heroes.
In addition to its burial grounds, the site was also a center for pottery production, which is reflected in its name, as "Kerameikos" means "potter's quarter." Visitors can explore the remains of ancient roads, walls, and the Kerameikos Museum, which houses artifacts discovered during excavations.
