Kentucky Dam
Kentucky Dam is a large concrete dam located on the Tennessee River in western Kentucky. Completed in 1944, it was built primarily for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, and navigation. The dam creates Kentucky Lake, one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States, which serves recreational purposes and supports local wildlife.
The dam stands 206 feet tall and stretches over 8,000 feet in length. It features a hydroelectric power plant with multiple turbines, contributing significantly to the region's energy supply. Additionally, the dam plays a crucial role in managing water levels and preventing flooding in surrounding areas.
