Kenneth Kaunda
Kenneth Kaunda was a prominent Zambian politician and the first President of Zambia, serving from 1964 to 1991. He played a crucial role in the country's independence from British colonial rule and was a key figure in the African liberation movement. Kaunda was known for his advocacy of African socialism and his efforts to promote education and healthcare in Zambia.
Throughout his presidency, Kaunda faced various challenges, including economic difficulties and political opposition. He was a founding member of the Organization of African Unity and worked to foster unity among African nations. After losing power in 1991, Kaunda continued to be involved in politics and humanitarian efforts until his passing in June 2021.
