Kauaʻi ʻŌʻō
The Kauaʻi ʻŌʻō, also known as Moho braccatus, was a small songbird native to the Hawaiian island of Kauaʻi. It belonged to the Hawaiian honeycreeper family and was known for its distinctive yellow and black plumage. The bird primarily inhabited the lush forests of Kauaʻi, where it fed on nectar from native flowers and insects.
This species was declared extinct in 1987, largely due to habitat loss and the introduction of non-native species. The Kauaʻi ʻŌʻō's disappearance highlights the fragility of Hawaiian ecosystems and the ongoing challenges faced by many endemic species in the region.
