Katherine Jefferts Schori
Katherine Jefferts Schori is an American Episcopal bishop and the first woman to serve as the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. She held this position from 2006 to 2015, overseeing the church's national and international activities. Schori is known for her advocacy on issues such as climate change, social justice, and the inclusion of marginalized groups within the church.
Born on March 26, 1954, in Pensacola, Florida, Schori earned a doctorate in oceanography before entering the ministry. She was ordained as a priest in 1994 and later became the bishop of the Diocese of Nevada in 2001, where she focused on community outreach and environmental stewardship.
