Kariba Dam
The Kariba Dam is a large embankment dam located on the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Completed in 1959, it was built to generate hydroelectric power and control flooding in the region. The dam creates Lake Kariba, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, which plays a crucial role in local ecosystems and economies.
The dam stands about 128 meters high and 617 meters long, making it an impressive engineering feat. It has a total installed capacity of 1,626 megawatts, providing electricity to both Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Kariba Dam is vital for energy supply and supports various recreational activities around Lake Kariba.
