Karanga
Karanga is a traditional Māori ceremony that takes place during a formal welcome, known as Pōwhiri. It is performed by the women of the host tribe and involves calling out to the visitors, inviting them to come forward. The purpose of Karanga is to acknowledge the presence of the guests and to honor those who have passed away.
During the Karanga, the women use a specific chant or call that conveys messages of peace and respect. This ritual is an important part of Māori culture, emphasizing the significance of hospitality and connection between people. It sets the tone for the gathering and fosters a sense of unity.
