Kamakura Daibutsu
The Kamakura Daibutsu, or Great Buddha of Kamakura, is a monumental bronze statue located in Kamakura, Japan. Completed in 1252, it stands approximately 13.35 meters tall and weighs around 121 tons. The statue represents Amitābha Buddha, a central figure in Buddhism, symbolizing compassion and enlightenment.
Originally housed in a temple, the Kamakura Daibutsu now sits in the open air due to the destruction of the temple by tidal waves.
