Kalayaan (Freedom)
Kalayaan, or freedom, refers to the state of being free from restrictions, oppression, or control. It encompasses the ability to make choices, express oneself, and pursue one's own path without undue interference. In many cultures, including the Philippines, Kalayaan is celebrated as a fundamental human right and a vital aspect of individual dignity.
In the Philippines, Kalayaan is particularly significant as it commemorates the country's independence from colonial rule. The celebration of Araw ng Kalayaan on June 12 honors the declaration of independence from Spanish colonization in 1898. This day serves as a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices made for freedom and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
