Kaimanawa Heritage Horses
The Kaimanawa Heritage Horses are a unique population of wild horses found in the Kaimanawa Ranges of New Zealand. These horses are descendants of domesticated stock that were released into the wild in the late 19th century. They are known for their resilience and adaptability to the rugged terrain of the region.
In 1994, the Kaimanawa Wild Horse Preservation Society was established to protect these horses and their habitat. The society works to manage the population sustainably, ensuring that the horses can thrive while also preserving the ecological balance of the area.
