Kṣitigarbha
Kṣitigarbha, also known as Jizō in Japan, is a bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism. He is revered as the protector of travelers and children, as well as the guardian of those in hell. Kṣitigarbha is often depicted as a monk with a staff and a wish-fulfilling jewel, symbolizing his commitment to helping all beings achieve enlightenment.
In Buddhist tradition, Kṣitigarbha is particularly associated with the afterlife and the relief of suffering in the realms of Naraka (hell). His vow to save all beings from suffering makes him a compassionate figure, embodying the ideals of Bodhisattva practice. Devotees often pray to him for guidance and protection.
