Justinian II
Justinian II was a Byzantine Emperor who ruled from 685 to 695 and again from 705 to 711. He was known for his ambitious attempts to restore the glory of the Byzantine Empire and for his controversial policies, including heavy taxation and military campaigns. His reign was marked by internal strife and opposition from various factions.
After being overthrown in 695, Justinian II spent several years in exile before returning to reclaim the throne in 705. His second reign was characterized by brutal repression of dissent and efforts to strengthen the empire's borders. Ultimately, he was deposed again in 711, marking the end of his tumultuous rule.
