Julian "Cannonball" Adderley
Julian "Cannonball" Adderley was an influential American jazz alto saxophonist born on September 15, 1928, in Tampa, Florida. He gained prominence in the late 1950s and 1960s, known for his vibrant sound and improvisational skills. Adderley played a significant role in the development of hard bop, a jazz style that combines elements of bebop with blues and gospel influences.
Adderley collaborated with many notable musicians, including Miles Davis and Bill Evans. His most famous recording, "So What," is part of Davis's iconic album Kind of Blue. Throughout his career, Adderley released numerous albums and became a key figure in the jazz scene until his death on August 8, 1975.
