Juan Fernández fur seal
The Juan Fernández fur seal is a marine mammal native to the Juan Fernández Islands, located off the coast of Chile. This species is known for its thick fur, which helps it stay warm in cold ocean waters. Adult males can weigh up to 200 kilograms, while females are smaller, typically weighing around 50 kilograms. They primarily feed on fish and squid.
These seals are classified as vulnerable due to habitat loss and hunting in the past. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their population and habitat, ensuring the survival of the Juan Fernández fur seal in its natural environment.
