Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was a Union Army officer during the American Civil War, known for his leadership at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. He was born on September 8, 1828, in Brewer, Maine, and later became a professor of rhetoric and modern languages at Bowdoin College. Chamberlain was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery and tactical skill during the war.
After the Civil War, Chamberlain served as the Governor of Maine and later as the president of Bowdoin College. He was also involved in post-war reconciliation efforts and wrote several books about his experiences. Chamberlain passed away on February 24, 1914.
