Joseph Nollekens
Joseph Nollekens was an English sculptor born on March 11, 1737, in London. He is best known for his neoclassical sculptures, which often depicted historical figures and mythological themes. Nollekens trained under the renowned sculptor John Bacon and later studied in Italy, where he was influenced by the works of Antonio Canova and Michelangelo.
Throughout his career, Nollekens gained recognition for his skillful marble carvings and portrait busts. He became a member of the Royal Academy and was appointed as the official sculptor to King George III. Nollekens passed away on April 23, 1823, leaving behind a significant legacy in British sculpture.
