Joseph Hooker was a Union general during the American Civil War, known for his leadership in several key battles. Born on November 13, 1814, in Massachusetts, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1837. Hooker played a significant role in the Battle of Antietam and later commanded the Army of the Potomac during the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863.
Despite his initial successes, Hooker's performance at Chancellorsville was criticized, leading to his resignation. He continued to serve in various capacities until the war's end, eventually retiring from the military. Hooker passed away on October 31, 1879.
